Based in Brisbane’ s inner north, Define’ s founder Andrew Munro utilises 20 years of project experience across Australia to provide the full suite of traditional landscape architectural services. His genuine personal interest in each project produces high quality outcomes in partnership with a trusted network of consultants, contractors and suppliers.

Andrew Munro, B.B.E. [L.Arch.]

Andrew Munro is a Brisbane based designer who loves the creative & technical fusion of Landscape Architecture. He created Define in 2009 with experience gained from previous roles within small and large landscape practices and multidisciplinary teams in both the public and private sector. Andrew is currently serving as the President of the Landscape Design Institute (Aust.) after joining the Board in 2018 and leading AILDM's rebranding to LDI in 2022. He is passionate about growing the industry collaboratively and representing members' needs by advocating to government and liaising with allied industries & advisory groups.

Andrew's passion for crafting master planned landscapes of all styles and scales has resulted in the delivery of many successful projects and beautiful residences, particularly around South East Queensland. Andrew enjoys the diversity of work encountered in his profession, relishing the challenge of providing creative solutions to  the problems faced at a local and global scale. Maintaining strong links with the development, construction & nursery industries, as well as local authorities and specialist contractors, Andrew cleverly collaborates with these design partners to create spaces and relationships that last.

Some of the exciting events in South-East Queensland that Andrew has spear-headed over the last few years include planning the revitalisation of the Old Museum Gardens through his work with the RNA on the Flower & Garden Committee, as well as directing the Hidden Design Festival for AILDM (the Australian Institute of Landscape Designers & Managers) in Queensland.

Aside from his professional career, Andrew enjoys travelling, gardening & socialising with family & friends. He also loves playing and watching many sports including Cricket, Tennis, Golf, Orienteering, Rugby Union, Soccer, NRL, AFL, NBA, Supercars, Indycars & Speedway.

Our Clients

We enjoy our work and love working on projects that have a genuine LANDSCAPE focus. We love creating inspiring places for people to enjoy no matter where that is.

We make the focus of any project the end result on the ground, not the plans that are produced during the process. It’ s much better to create a beautiful & distinctive landscape to enjoy in real life than create a pretty plan just to pin on the fridge to look at “what might have been...”

We know plants really well...! (that’s what should set exceptional Landscape Architects apart from the rest...) We work from an extensive and trusted plant palette that is constantly refined and enhanced by making regular visits to all kinds of nurseries, specialist plant growers and project sites.

We won’t provide solutions or make decisions for you based on a false economy - our experience has shown the benefits in doing something right and properly the first time... we approach design with a 'triple-bottom-line' focus, showing appreciation to the full life-cycle of any landscape, any eco-system or any single object.

We won’t profess to know everything in this broad discipline. As specialist designers, we are collaborators and facilitators of excellent design and know how to utilise the skills of a wide network of allied design professionals to value-add to our unique skills for each projects benefit.

We value being independent - it reinforces our work methodology so we’re not limited to only one product, process, service or location.

We strive for a happy work/life balance, equipping us to be a consistently smart and reliable design partner.
